Untrimmed hoof
Clear the built up dirt out of the toe with the tip of the hoof trimmers or with a hoof pick.
It helps to determine the final length of the toe if you snip the tip of the toe off level with the "cup" left when the dirt was cleared out.
This photo shows the snipped off toe. The side walls will be trimmed off level with the low point of the snipped off toe.
Use the snipped off toe to help determine the length of the side walls. It helps to follow the sole with the side of the trimmers as you remove the wall.
The hoof walls have been trimmed down level with the sole. Excess sole has been trimmed down level with the snipped off toe.
The second toe has been snipped off level with the hollowed out portion of the toe tip.
Side walls have been trimmed off level with the toe.
A razor knife was used to level the sole of the hoof completely. Stop if you see pink
The bottom of the foot is level when sighted down the heel
The finished foot is shaped like a rombus (tilted square) with short toe and high heel
